125mm for the flat discipline or to go fast:
125mm cranks are generally used on 20 inch unicycles intended for flat / trial. They will allow you to be stable, to have a powerful pedal stroke and to be able to mark a stop quickly.
On the other hand, for flat / trial we will not use a square crank, unsuitable for jumping. With this square crank, the interest will be, on a 26-inch unicycle for example, to go on long strolls on the road. A long crank allows more power, to pass over obstacles or to ride on sloping ground.
On more high-end unicycles, this type of square crank will rarely be used (we prefer ISIS or Q-Axle cranks). And often on road unicycles, there are two holes for the pedals so you can use long or short cranks depending on your use at the time.
Help with assembling your cranks:
We made a little manual for you! The document is downloadable with advice and information on how to screw your pedals onto your unicycle:
Download Document Cranks / PedalsInformation to remember when fitting your cranks: if you fit them the wrong way, you will damage the thread of the cranks and the pedals will unscrew while you're rinding. Make sure the crank marked R is on the right and the L is on the left!
Type of use of the square crank:
A square crank is suitable for strolling / riding. They will be suitable for occasional use. These are usually the cranks on beginner, family unicycles. In circus schools, they are also found on multipurpose Luxus / Only One unicycles. Be careful, however, they are not suitable if you do jumps with your unicycle. From time to time you will need to check the tightness of these. At the slightest jiggle, stop using the unicycle to tighten your cranks. If you practice with a loose crank it will quickly deteriorate and you will need to replace it.
How to change a unicycle crank?
To change a unicycle crank, you will need to equip yourself with a crank extractor. You will also need a 15 mm spanner to tighten your pedals on your cranks.
