What size to buy?

If you ask 10 different people, you will definitely get 10 different answers ... But still, here are some tips given by Pich that I allowed myself to modify a little with his permission. Thank you Pich for this information:

The size of the balls is chosen according to several criteria:

Visual rendering: The bigger the balls, the more visible they are and the more impressive it is. On the other hand, the light effects are more or less the same with small balls or large ones. Visually, it is a bit of a shame to "handle" with balls smaller than 70mm.

The tricks you want to do: If you want to play with 5 balls in one hand, do not take 100 mm balls, 70 mm maximum !!! And for small hands the 65 mm will be more suitable.

Hand size: At a certain stage, when the balls are too big, you can no longer execute certain tricks. Thus, the thumb push pyramid flip will be more difficult to perform because the thumb may be too short. For example, Pich: hand wide open and fingers spread, measuring from the tip of his thumb to the tip of his little finger, 22cm. To start with a hand size like this, he recommends 75mm max.

The fluidity you want to have: It will be easier to be fluid with 75mm balls than with 85mm balls (for tricks with 6, 7 and 8 balls).

Pleasure: Some take more pleasure with bigger balls. Someone with experience will often tell you that they started with 70mm balls then a 75mm batch then an 80mm batch then a new 85mm batch. Difficult to go back after ! On the other hand, each time, it takes a rather long period of two or three months to get used to the new size. Long and difficult period (it can hurt the hands!) and that during this period there is a loss of pleasure since we can no longer do certain tricks. It is gradually that we slowly re-enter (almost) all of your tricks.

The weight of the balls: This is the central criterion in fact. We must choose the balls according to our muscular resistance, our propensity to catch tendonitis, our practice time, our regularity, etc ... The ideal is still to be able to try with the balls of other manipulators.

Our muscular resistance: to "manipulate", you need to have relatively solid forearms and a really solid backbone. In the meantime, the more you manipulate, the more your body will adapt to the manipulation. An average guy can handle 75mm. If you are less strong, then why not go down to 70mm.

Tendonitis: With the 70mms, some get tendonitis in 10 minutes! If you are predisposed to it, do not try this discipline, period ! (Hey Pich, what about me my acrylic business ?? !!! ??)

Practice time: if you practice more than 6 hours per week (this is what Pich does) then do not hesitate to take big balls because you will quickly end up getting used to the big size of your balls. If you don't practice much, it will take a while to get used to the size of your balls (their weight and size) and you may become discouraged. For example, you can do two minutes of manipulation, then you pause for 2 minutes then you take them again 2 minutes to finally release them completely and go juggle with something else !! ; o)

So if you don't practice much, I'd recommend the 70 mm ball. In a manipulation session, it can take a good half an hour of practice to get started and do whatever you want with your balls.

Regularity of practice: The more you practice, the more your back will accept the manipulation and therefore the more you will withstand the big balls.

Level of Practice: If you are just beginning, don't take bigger than 75mm balls unless you are sure you really are going to practice a lot. Pich specifies that if he had started with 80mm, he doesn't know if he would have continued for long.

The pyramid with 75 mm balls does not come that easily when you start, although it is still a relatively enjoyable trick. If you are not a beginner, then you already have balls and it's up to you to see if you want bigger ones or not.

And to change the size of your balls, it is always possible to resell your batch of second-hand balls, which makes the new batch cheaper :-).

With intensive practice, a batch of balls has a lifespan of approximately 3 years. Afterwards, they are so shattered that we can turn them into bouncing balls !!

      Re: mains
