Video of Varana 441 juggling balls:
A big thank you to the Compagnie Les Invendus and to Raphael (Metlili) for the video.
NetJuggler's opinion:
Its shell is thin and soft which makes it nice to the touch and gives it a pleasant grip when juggled. Depending on the filling (that you will do yourself), the ball can be ideal for beginners, but also for professionals. Refer to the paragraph: "Type of filling" for more information.
Technical characteristics:
- Ball diameter: 65mm.
- Mass of the soft shell between 33 and 35 grams only.
- This juggling ball model is not reactive in the presence of black light. We do not use UV pigments in the manufacture of our balls. This allows our balls to keep their color much longer when exposed to the sun in comparison with balls from other manufacturers who use UV pigments.
- Colours: All colors are opaque except the translucent ball and the eggplant ball which is slightly translucent.
What kind of use ?
The diameter of these balls is ideal for begginers from 6 years old, but it is also an ideal ball for teenagers/adults. For children, we recommend filling with millet. This filling will make the ball steady, soft to the touch and pleasant to juggle.
Possible filling types:
- Millet: Millet is an edible seed that you will find in organic stores or in grocery stores generally next to the rice. We recommend a complete filling of the ball with a mass between 120 and 130 grams.
- Wheat semolina: ideal if you want to get a ball with a mass of 120 to 125 grams. This filling is firmer than the millet. Your balls will be less soft.
- Sand or sand quartz: (purchase in DIY store with materials, OR you could find it on the beach:-) ). By putting a small amount (filling one-third of the volume of the ball) you will get a Russian ball. The Russian balls have the advantage of having a very low centre of gravity which allows to facilitate the catching of balls that are launched very high. Interesting to juggle with more than 5 balls at the same time for example.
- Liquid: The plug system we have developed makes the ball waterproof, allowing you to fill it with liquid. If you want to exert significant pressure on a ball filled with liquid, we recommend you to glue the plug to the ball. When you put liquid in a juggling ball, it lowers the centre of gravity of the ball. The water is to be avoided because it moves too brutally in the ball making the trajectories hazardous. We recommend the use of liquid silicone, that is more or less: lubricant.
- Other materials: do not hesitate to provide us at the bottom of this page your comments on your ball filling experiences. Those who worked well for you and those who did not give any results:-(.
How to fill your ball ?
The ball is easily filled with a mini funnel. If you don't already have one, you can easily find one in the kitchen utensils aisle (or patisserie) at a lower cost. To avoid an additional expense, you can otherwise make a funnel from a simple sheet of paper to which you will give a form of funnel. If you are rigorous, a kitchen balance will allow you to give a mass identical to each of your balls.
Why 441 ?
In the juggling field, there is a mathematical notation that allows to write juggle tricks. To simplify to the extreme, we can compare this notation called Siteswap to the music theory. Allowing you to do tricks by following specific rules but also to exchange and understand juggling tricks. The 441 is a juggling trick that works with 3 juggling balls.
Maintenance advice:
Unfortunately, all balls with PVC coating are allergic to ink. This is the case with all juggling balls that exist. Indeed, when in contact with some ink, this type of balls are quite easily stained. That's why it's good to have a small nylon bag, for example, to prevent the balls touching some ink. Careful not to touch a magazine or a newspaper for example.
Any other type of stain is removed very well with soapy water and a sponge.
You can try some acetone, but you need to know that the acetone will remove the bright side of the balls. Many jugglers coat acetone on the brilliant balls to make them matte. But I'm not recommending this method if you want your juggling balls to stay bright.

In the stores I visited, they only have hulled millet. Does this work for filling the bales?
Good morning, Unhulled millet is actually not suitable for human consumption, as the grain's natural husk is inedible. However, since millet is generally grown for food, it is rare to find it unhulled. In the case of juggling balls, the use of hulled or unhulled millet has no impact on their performance or durability. This choice in no way changes the quality or use of the balls. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask me!
Hi, I had a small problem with my ball, at the hole it started to crack.
Please contact us by email or phone so we can help. Our contact information is at the top of the site.
Does this ball still come in white? There is no white option in the preferences list, or no longer...
The balls are still available in white. However, we are currently making a modification to the mold. We will therefore not be able to produce balls for a while, and the white color will be available again in November 2019.
Hello,
How to fill the balls? ...
Is it difficult? And is there a doc to show how to do it?
Thanks in advance.
Varana Documentation
The balls are filled using a funnel (not included). The documentation provided with the balls explains the entire process. This documentation can also be downloaded from the ball's product sheet: Varana 441 Documentation (see pages 5 and 6).
I just bought 5 different colored varana balls, and I was wondering if they could bleed into each other if I carry them all in the same bag?
I would mind staining them knowing that they are new.
Varana balls were designed to minimize the stains that can occur when the balls touch each other. This usually happens when UV dyes are used in plastic. We chose not to use UV dyes here. This is to limit stains when mixing the balls, but also to reduce the risk of the balls losing color when left in the sun.
Having already tested quite a few of the balls you sell, I find that the varana are the best. I liked the 65mm diameter (I have small hands) and the fact that we can choose the filling ourselves (for my part I put lubricant: for a good 1/3 filling, put 33ml of lubricant for a weight of 73g more or less), and also for the fun colors!
Having played with "implosions," I find that varanas don't stick very well.
Juggling-wise, they are very pleasant: soft shell, no loss of liquid with the caps, and perfect for 3-5 balls (and more).
To recommend!
Good luck and happy juggling ;)
The fact that they stick less will facilitate multiplexes and dynamic balances (rolling on the body). This was a desire on our part.
Thank you for all these details and especially for this valuable information on the filling that suits you. Happy juggling. What is the diameter of the ball?
We usually indicate these types of characteristics in the product description (see a little higher in the paragraph: "Characteristics of the bullet shell". You will also find information there such as the mass of the shell.
The Varana 441 have a diameter of 65mm.
Would it be possible to have the caps in white?
Kind regards, Theo
The caps are only available in red and transparent. By default, they come with transparent (translucent) caps.
Varana ball caps are available for purchase on our website.
We bought some for our middle school. The price is attractive at 4.5 euros with our price. We hesitated with the silx but this model allowed us to buy more and I think that the millet filling is more consistent for beginners than the liquid silicone and the smaller diameter is better for the small hands of the 6th graders. On the other hand, the ball filling workshop is a bit long... But you have to know what you want.
Varana 441 is a choice I made without hesitation because I appreciate netjuggler's services, and by selling good equipment, it has good repercussions!
Varana 441 is:
- Self-filling ball (+1 at customs!!).
- Ball with a cap that closes really well (some air inlets but no loss of contents).
- A good quality, recyclable and inexpensive ball.
- A really fun ball to juggle!
However, I noticed that:
- The shell sticks A LOT at first: You have to wash it and wait for it to get a little dusty before several balls stick to each throw.
- A very soft shell in the hand, but which, I find, does not match the quality of the SRX when it comes to contact (the balls still roll a little even after several doses of fine sand).
For me, it's a must-have, especially for adventurers who like to change their gear often or who go very far.
So, with 7 Russian bullets in 75mm and 7 of these, you have plenty of fun!
Thank you for this constructive feedback. The new shell is indeed sticky when you receive the balls. From the first uses, the balls will stick less and become more pleasant to juggle.
I just bought 4 Varana 441s and I was just going to talk about the fact that they are very sticky at first, but it gets sorted out in 2-3 hours of juggling ;D
