A big thank you to Jonathan Bou for this pretty video that shows the potential of our Varana 97531 balls in motion.
Varana 97531 ball:
Its shell is thin and flexible which makes it soft to the touch and gives it a pleasant grip when juggled. Its shell is a bit thicker than the 441 version we also sell. Depending on the filling you do yourself, the ball may be ideal to have a Russian ball effect, but also for a traditional ball with a more substantial filling. Refer to the paragraph: "Type of filling" for more information.
This ball excels for 3 balls with contact integration, body stops, juggling with the foot and it offers excellent performances up to 7 balls. Since 2004, we have seen many different models of balls and are convinced that we have here an ideal ball model for several juggling styles. With the "perfect diameter": 74mm. A ball with a very good scenic visual while having a diameter small enough to be comfortable to handle on 6 and 7 balls.

Allows you to carry up to 6 balls like these. The bag will be automatically added to your order when being prepared if you order at least 5 of these balls. If you order more than 6 balls, we will give you a larger bag that allows you to store more balls:-).
NetJuggler's opinion:
The Varana 97531 ball is a 74mm diameter ball. It is ideal for an intensive use. It is entirely made in France from a recyclable and phtalate-free PVC.
Technical characteristics:
- Diameter of the ball: 74mm.
- Flexible shell mass: 60gr (tolerance +/- 5 gr).
- This ball model is not reactive in the presence of black light. We do not use UV pigments in the manufacture of our balls. This allows our balls to keep their colour much longer when exposed to the sun in comparison with balls from other manufacturers who use UV pigments.
Possible filling types:
- Millet: Millet is an edible seed that you will find in organic stores or in grocery stores generally next to the rice. We recommend a complete filling of the ball with a mass between 120 and 130 grams.
- Wheat semolina: ideal if you want to get a ball with a mass of 120 to 125 grams. This filling is firmer than the millet. Your balls will be less soft.
- Sand or sand quartz: (purchase in DIY store with materials, OR you could find it on the beach:-) ). By putting a small amount (filling one-third of the volume of the ball) you will get a Russian ball. The Russian balls have the advantage of having a very low centre of gravity which allows to facilitate the catching of balls that are launched very high. Interesting to juggle with more than 5 balls at the same time for example.
- Liquid: The plug system we have developed makes the ball waterproof, allowing you to fill it with liquid. If you want to exert significant pressure on a ball filled with liquid, we recommend you to glue the plug to the ball. When you put liquid in a juggling ball, it lowers the centre of gravity of the ball. The water is to be avoided because it moves too brutally in the ball making the trajectories hazardous. We recommend the use of liquid silicone, that is more or less: lubricant.
- Other materials: do not hesitate to provide us at the bottom of this page your comments on your ball filling experiences. Those who worked well for you and those who did not give any results:-(.
What kind of use ?
The diameter of these balls is quite important. This ball is more suitable for teenagers/adults who already have a good juggling level but also for jugglers who want add some contact juggling into their three ball juggling routine.
How to fill your ball ?
The ball is easily filled with a mini funnel. If you don't already have one, you can easily find one in the kitchen utensils aisle (or patisserie) at a lower cost. To avoid an additional expense, you can otherwise make a funnel from a simple sheet of paper to which you will give a form of funnel. If you are rigorous, a kitchen balance will allow you to give a mass identical to each of your balls.
Why 97531?
In the juggling field, there is a mathematical notation that allows to write juggle tricks. To simplify to the extreme, we can compare this notation called Siteswap to the music theory. Allowing you to do tricks by following specific rules but also to exchange and understand juggling tricks. The 97531 is a juggling trick that works with 5 balls that every juggling nerd dreams of. Indeed, with this trick, all the balls are mid-air at the same time in a perfect alignment !
Maintenance advice:
Unfortunately, all balls with PVC coating are allergic to ink. This is the case with all juggling balls that exist. Indeed, when in contact with some ink, this type of balls are quite easily stained. That's why it's good to have a small nylon bag, for example, to prevent the balls touching some ink. Careful not to touch a magazine or a newspaper for example.
Any other type of stain is removed very well with soapy water and a sponge.
You can try some acetone, but you need to know that the acetone will remove the bright side of the balls. Many jugglers coat acetone on the brilliant balls to make them matte. But I'm not recommending this method if you want your juggling balls to stay bright.

hi, what's the max weight possible if you fill them with something heavy like sand?
Good morning,
Compared to the Sil-x hybrid, these balls are also interesting for integrating stops, particularly at the feet (with good filling)
Compared to Sil-X Hybrid, the shell is a little softer but not as soft as a Silx-light / or SRX ball shell... It's halfway between the two. With a third or up to 80% filling with millet you will have excellent performance for making saves and juggling with your feet.
If you want to fill the ball completely with millet or even 80% of it, the ball will be quite heavy. You could fill it with ray grass to get something more homogeneous, less dense and therefore lighter. This will be great for making numbers but less interesting for making saves and juggling with your feet.
Good morning
Can these balls be juggled outdoors?
And then is there anything to fill the balls with when they are delivered?
Thank you so much
These balls can be juggled indoors and outdoors. They are sturdy and designed for intensive use. They are sold empty. You can fill them with whatever you like. We recommend either millet, a small grain that can be purchased at the grocery store. Or a small amount of sand to make a Russian ball. Or liquid silicone to lower the ball's center of gravity.
Good morning,
These bullets weigh 60g, to make a typical Russian bullet, therefore light, I think of quartz but in this case it would be necessary to use very little?
Hello, I would like to know where to find liquid silicone to fill my Varana 97531 balls. Thank you in advance.
Liquid silicone can be either a silicone used in the food industry or simply silicone lubricant for sex. You'll need a very liquid silicone. In fact, we avoid water because water moves "brutally" in the ball. It must be slightly viscous.
Thank you very much for the answer ???? for the moment I tried the millet seeds, the balls are really great, the touch, the grip.. I highly recommend this ball to all jugglers ????
Hello, I am very satisfied with this item.
Furthermore, is there any plan for an intermediate diameter for Varana balls in the future?
(70-72 mm)
Thank you in advance for your response.
Sincerely
For Varana balls, we have not planned production with an intermediate diameter.
Good morning,
Can you give me an approximate weight of the balls filled one third with quartz?
THANKS
You would have to fill a ball to see and it will depend on the density of what you put inside. The best is to put quartz sand until you get the mass you want for the ball. Maybe underfill slightly to test then add a little until you get the mass that suits you. It is better to add than to remove because you can be more precise.
Unlike the Varana 441, I noticed that the Varana 97531 are not sold in translucent. I find that a shame...
I'll tell you again, but I still have a bit of trouble with the 65mm which I find a bit "sticky" even after washing and use.
But the 74mm, good God (if you'll allow me the expression), it's a joy! In 3 balls as in 7, I, for my part, filled them with millet and it's simply a joy!
A diameter that's just right, a comfortable shell, a practical weight, what more could you want? Apart from the Henry's velvet, I can't find any balls that come close. Even the owners of the Silx light are jealous of them!
At the very limit, for Russian ball jugglers, the hull could lack finesse... Afterwards, I am not a big fan of Norwicks & CO and am not a very rough performer.
With everything made in France and sustainably, thank you and thank you again to the team!
Herve
Hello, it took me a while to choose between the different juggling balls. I think I've made my choice for the Varana but I'm still hesitating between the 65 and 74 mm because I'm used to juggling with 67s.
I have a good level, I juggle a lot with 3 balls, I am a girl and I have average hands, I would like you to give me your opinion
Hi, where did the photos of the balls go?
Thank you MATTHEW (and all the girls)
Hello, I just posted the photos this Sunday afternoon. We currently produce the VARANA 97531 bullet only in white and orange. This is the 74mm version.
