This year again, the Bigoud'n'Jongle is open to festival-goers who wish to stay for several days, as well as to those curious enough to simply enjoy the view.
La Bigoud N Jongle is a gathering of jugglers. It's an event where juggling amateurs and professionals come together to celebrate their shared passion. Even if you're not a juggler at all, you're also welcome; you'll be able to learn by participating in workshops and attending shows and concerts. The event is also festive.
Participants can expect a variety of activities such as juggling workshops, juggling demonstrations, juggling games, live juggling shows, and opportunities to meet and chat with other jugglers.
Activities are scheduled over several days, with a sign at the entrance telling you what's happening where and when. Jugglers, circus artists, and even yourself can actively participate by organizing workshops and participating in the Renegades and Open Stages, so there's also room for improvisation at this event. Don't expect to find everything on the program.
The workshops are led by local people like you and me, professionals and amateurs, there is usually something for all levels of juggling.
For several years, one of the gymnasiums has been dedicated to the practice of aerials (fabric, trapeze, etc.) are installed there.
Demonstrations and shows can be given by professional jugglers or by amateur jugglers from the community.
In short, La Bigoud is a place where jugglers can gather, train, have fun and share their passion for juggling.
The association primarily manages the Bigoud'n'Jongle Convention, an annual event that has been held for over ten years at the Vezin-le-Coquet sports complex in the Rennes metropolitan area. The convention is one of the largest and oldest in France. Over the years, it has attracted more and more participants, offered an increasingly diverse program, and established numerous association partnerships. As a result, the organizing team has had to expand to accommodate the event's growth.
The convention takes place:
Vezin-le-Coquet Sports Complex
Stadium Street
35132 Vezin-le-Coquet
But before you hit the road, head to the convention website to find all the information, the program, some quick instructions, and a ton of videos from previous editions: https://bigoudnjongle.wordpress.com/
Bain de Bretagne 2000: The first convention organized by Jongle et Rit was a great success, with many more attendees than expected. The lineup included artists such as Les Troubakoi, TABAC, Les Ratetous, and Double Zéro, who brought out their sound systems for the occasion. Many jugglers stayed on site after the convention, which took place just before Les Tombées de la Nuit, a Rennes festival. A special thanks to the jugglers who came with a goat, who learned too late that pets were not allowed!
Thorigné Fouillard 2001: The convention grew in size that year, with the participation of an amateur circus school troupe, as well as companies such as JCD Cie (which became Micmac Cie), Cie Banc Public, L'Hémisphère de l'Ouest, and Momette. A Sunday morning parade with a large gladiator in the church square and the Batucada will remain in the memories, especially since the church was ringing at that moment for a mass!
Vezin le Coquet 2002: This year's edition was marked by the creation of Jongle Aigri, a movement created to "parasitize" the conventions organized by Jongle et Rit. The lineup included artists such as Denis Paumier and Cirque sans raison, as well as a group of jugglers from the Lido in Toulouse.
Saint Médard-sur-Ille 2003: With a change of organizing team, the convention welcomed a traditional circus tent and animals on site. The theme of the year was "Interville," with a heavy emphasis on juggling. A show created by Jongle et Rit was presented on Saturday evening, followed by carte blanche in the bar tent for "Ludo the Crazy Juggler" for hours of offbeat solo performances.
The following years saw a few editions of the convention, but with a break of a few years before it was taken over by a new team. In 2007, Bigoud'n Jongle was born, with a return to Thorigné in 2007 and 2008, before moving to Vezin le Coquet for the following editions. In 2009, an open space was created for other circus arts in a gymnasium, with activities such as tree climbing, aerial disciplines, and balancing.
