The essential guide to maintaining and cleaning your mascot

Par NetJuggler | Fri 14th July 2023

Mascots are the beating heart of many events, captivating crowds and bringing brands to life. To keep them looking their best and continuing to wow audiences, proper care and cleaning are essential. How can you ensure your mascot stays as fresh and attractive as the first day? Here are the essential tips for keeping your mascot in tip-top condition.

Why and how to clean your mascot costume

Throughout their appearances, mascot costumes are subjected to numerous challenges: the wearer's perspiration, public contact, and exposure to the elements. Regular cleaning isn't just a matter of aesthetics; it's also essential for maintaining hygiene. It prevents the buildup of bacteria and unpleasant odors, ensuring a pleasant experience for both the wearer and the public.

Washing your pet's fabric parts: effective methods

Under the mascot costume, it is recommended to wear a hood and thin clothing to protect the mascot's interior as much as possible. These garments are machine washable. If purchased on our site, the body of your mascot can be machine washed at 30°. This part is therefore easy to wash. If you prefer to make life difficult for yourself, you can hand wash it.

It is recommended to use cold water and a mild detergent to preserve colors and fibers. Air drying is preferred to avoid shrinkage or distortion.
Avoid the dryer, whose heat can damage delicate materials.

Separate washing: Wash different parts separately to minimize the risk of discoloration.

Clean your mascot costume head and accessories

The head doesn't fit the machine. The mascot's forced smile won't survive the centrifugal force!

The mascot's head, often the focal point of the costume, requires special attention. A surface cleaning with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt. For the interior, a disinfectant spray suitable for textiles will eliminate bacteria and odors. It is important to never completely submerge the head or rigid accessories, so as not to damage the materials or any electronic components.

Humidification: Lightly spray the head with water. You can add a little lemon, which will help clean without the harsh chemicals. The lemon scent is not unpleasant. It is crucial not to let water penetrate the interior to prevent mold growth.

Before letting it air dry, if you have a vacuum cleaner that can suck up water, you can use a vacuum cleaner on a not-too-powerful setting to vacuum the head. Synthetic furs appreciate this; it restores some of their volume while removing dust and dirt that may have gotten caught in the fur.

Be careful not to get any water inside the head. This part is difficult to dry and you risk having mold inside and unpleasant odors.

You can also take the head to a professional for dry cleaning. Be careful, however, to give instructions not to use strong toxic cleaning products that tend to damage furs.

Brushing: If the costume is made of fur or long-haired fabric, brush it after cleaning to restore its original appearance.

Tips to Extend the Life of Your Mascot Costume

Regular maintenance not only extends the life of your suit, but also ensures a professional appearance every time you wear it. It's recommended to store your suit in a dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and moisture. If there are any small tears or loose seams, immediate repair will prevent the problem from worsening. Using protective covers can also help preserve the materials between uses.

Mistakes to avoid when washing your pet

To preserve the integrity of the costume, avoid using harsh products such as bleaching agents or strong detergents . Do not tumble dry delicate parts, as the heat can damage the materials. Finally, always follow the manufacturer's specific instructions for each costume element, as each mascot may have its own particularities.

When to call a professional to clean your mascot

If you encounter persistent stains or significant damage, it's best to consult a professional cleaner who specializes in delicate costumes or textiles. They have the tools and expertise to treat your mascot with the care it deserves, ensuring its longevity and impeccable appearance.
